No, there is no actual candy corn in this smoothie.
I suppose it’s not exactly clear whether candy corn is an ingredient in a smoothie titled “candy corn smoothie”, and can get confusing when the recipe claims to be healthy. However, this smoothie certainly looks like a candy corn- and if you’re feeling festive, it’s definitely the perfect healthy Halloween dessert to enjoy with a couple friends!
Ever since I saw my first “layered smoothie” on Instagram, I’ve been enamored with them. In my opinion, there’s nothing more enticing than a mason jar filled with a smoothie that’s half dark-red and half cream, topped with blueberries, and dripping down the sides of the jar. Well, maybe a giant slice of chocolate cake is a bit more enticing. But a layered smoothie is a close second!
When attempting to replicate the “layered look” for this recipe, my biggest trouble was getting the densities right. Unfortunately, if your second layer is heavier than your first layer, it will sink down to the bottom of the glass and completely destroy the pretty, defined layers of your smoothie. After tweaking the recipe for the yellow layer ever-so-slightly I finally came up with a layer thick enough to hold up the other two layers, without being too dense to come up your straw!
And luckily after that minor setback, the rest of this recipe was smooth(ie) sailing!
(I had to do it, #noregrets)
I just love how festive these smoothies are- they really got me in the Halloween, and Autumn, spirit. I’m sure they’ll soon become a fall-staple in my house!
Of course, I do have another month to come up with more Halloween recipes… So this will definitely not be my last! 😉
Candy Corn Smoothie
- 1/3 c greek yogurt
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbs stevia
- 2 tbs milk of choice (I used unsweetened almond milk)
- 1/2 c natural orange juice
- 1/2 c 0% Greek yogurt
- 1 clementine
- 1 – 1 1/2 c ice
- 1/2 banana
- 1/2 c milk of choice (I used unsweetened almond milk)
- 1 c ice
- 1 c frozen mango
Begin by making the yellow layer. Blend all ingredients in a blender, then pour equal amounts of smoothie in three glasses. Set glasses in freezer. Next, make orange layer (add more ice if needed) by blending all ingredients together. Remove glasses from freezer, then pour equal amounts of smoothie into each glass. Place back in freezer. Finally, make white layer by adding all ingredients to a small bowl and stirring until smooth. Remove glasses from freezer and scoop a large spoonful of yogurt onto orange layer of each smoothie. If the yogurt in the first glass begins to sink, place glasses back in the freezer for an additional 10-15 minutes before scooping remaining yogurt on top. Remove, serve, and enjoy!
