Strawberry Kefir Oats

My favorite breakfast recipes are definitely the easy ones.


For instance, I have either a smoothie or overnight oats almost every morning during the school week. And it’s not just because tropical smoothies really are the perfect combo of creamy yogurt, papaya, mango, strawberries, pineapple, coconut milk, and even celery or spinach if I’m feeling extra healthy. Nor is it because I have an ongoing love affair with oatmeal. It’s because these two breakfasts take up to 7 minutes to make, leaving me an extra 10-20 minutes in the morning to relax.

So after recently discovering Kefir, my mind almost immediately began creating an overnight oats recipe!

If you’ve never had Kefir before, here’s my take on it: it’s basically grown-up Danimals. As a kid, Danimals was pretty much my favorite yogurt-smoothie drink. They came in the cutest little bottles, and were perfect for a quick snack or to take to lunch. And come on, the name was just so adorable!!

Well, ten years later I’m basically reliving my childhood experiences by drinking Kefir! After all, who doesn’t like acting like a kid every once in a while? 😉


Additionally, Kefir contains lots of Vitamin B12, calcium, vitamin K2, biotin, magnesium, folate, enzymes, and probiotics… a hefty list, I know!! I can also help fight allergies, improve lactose digestion, boost immunity, and build bone density. In fact, a study out of the University College Cork, Ireland has found that the probiotics in Kefir can actually help fight sickness!

And okay, like I said, it tastes amazing.

That being said, you can probably guess that my new favorite oats recipe is this Strawberry Kefir Overnight Oats!! They are so simple to make at night, and actually take less than 3 minutes to whip up. Set them in the fridge overnight, and the next morning you literally have the most amazing bowl of oatmeal! I love topping mine with coconut cream mixed with a bit of agave, as well as granola and coconut flakes. That way you’ve got your sweetness and your crunch without having to spend the time that morning layering up a parfait!


And instead, you can spend the extra time doing something you love… Like reading a book, chatting with family, or even watching Netflix! 😉

Strawberry Kefir Oats

  • 1/3 c rolled oats
  • 2/3 c Lowfat Strawberry Kefir
  • 1/4 c sliced strawberries
  • 1/2 tbs chia seeds

Pour oats into a bowl, mason jar, or mug of choice. Add kefir and stir until combined. Add sliced strawberries and chia seeds and stir until fully combined. Place in the fridge overnight, or for at least 8 hours. In the morning, remove and top with coconut, coconut cream, more strawberries, or other toppings of choice. Enjoy!
