Two Ingredient Dark Chocolate Shell

I’ve been spending a lot of time on Facebook recently.

This is mainly due to the “senioritis” catching up on me, conning me into spending hours aimlessly scrolling through social media instead of doing actual work! If you haven’t heard of “senioritis” before, it’s basically a tendency 2nd semester high school seniors have to procrastinate like crazy and lose all motivation to work. For me, it has become especially apparent when I try to do homework on my laptop… I always somehow end up back on Facebook!

This is exactly how I first learned about “chocolate shells.” From a post a friend of mine had shared demonstrating how to make them, in just a few easy steps! What are chocolate shells, you ask? Well, basically they’re spheres or hemispheres of hardened chocolate that are placed over another dessert, such as a cookie or ice cream. Then, hot, melted chocolate is typically poured over the melted chocolate and the chocolate shell breaks open as it melts, coating your dessert with decadent melted chocolate.

While this is definitely not the healthiest dessert, I decided to give it a try with dark chocolate and coconut oil as a less unhealthy alternative to that made with sugar-packed milk chocolate! Plus, what’s better than melted dark chocolate drizzled over vanilla ice cream and your favorite (hopefully healthy!) cookie? 😉

This chocolate shell does take a bit of time to make, as it must be frozen a few times to ensure it has fully solidified before you remove it from the bowl. However, when you pour that hot melted chocolate over top it and see the shell break apart in a decadent chocolatey cascade… all the work will be worth it!

But I do have to mention one thing… the chocolate shell will most likely be gone in about 1/16th of the time it took you to make it, because you won’t be able to prevent yourself from devouring the entire thing in 2 seconds flat! 😉

Two Ingredient Dark Chocolate Shell

  • 2 tsp coconut oil
  • 2 tbs dark chocolate

plus an extra 1/2 tbs coconut oil and 1 tbs dark chocolate

Place a small bowl into the freezer and freeze for 5 minutes. Add coconut oil and dark chocolate another small bowl and melt in the microwave for 15 seconds. Stir until smooth and melted. Remove bowl from freezer and add 1/3 of the melted chocolate into the bowl, turning it to coat all the sides. Freeze for another 2 minutes. Repeat two more times, until all the chocolate has been used. Freeze bowl for 20 minutes, or until solid. Place a cookie and a scoop of ice cream onto a plate. Run the bowl with the chocolate under hot water, then turn onto a plate. Melt additional coconut oil and dark chocolate in another bowl (make sure the mixture is really hot). Drizzle melted chocolate over it to break the shell. Enjoy!
